Who I Am. I’m Nelson Miller. I was a trial lawyer and appellate lawyer, and then a law professor and law school dean, for going on forty years before turning full time to web content writing. I have over 100 books and many more scholarly articles, blogs, and book chapters to my publication credit. Along the way, I’ve been president of two school boards and several nonprofit boards, director of a clinic forming over 100 tax-exempt charitable organizations, church leader and worship band member, and horse trainer. I’ve also won a state-wide award for providing free legal service to thousands of homeless and disadvantaged clients, and had a Harvard University Press publication include me among the nation’s best law professors. My wife and I are nearing our 50th anniversary, while daily enjoying our lawyer/educator daughter and a grandson, and not a few dogs.

Why I Help. I share strategic insights with friends and acquaintances because I love to see people do well. While facing and overcoming challenges is a vital part of life, I don’t want anyone to fail for lack of guidance and encouragement. I had the help of many along my way, one very dear man in particular whom I cannot directly repay, although years after he had died when far too young, I did get to teach and mentor his grandson. I want to keep passing the torch along. This website provides strategic guidance on a wide range of personal, financial, and legal matters. It does not provide legal advice because a lawyer cannot give legal advice without full consideration of all relevant information relating to the client’s situation.

How I Differ. I’ve lived a varied life, meeting different people along the way. I grew up in Detroit through the riots of the late 1960s. I then traveled the country as a horse trainer, with clients from all walks of life. After I became a lawyer, graduating near the top of my class at one of the nation’s leading law schools, I represented not just government, university, and corporate clients but also seriously injured workers, civil-rights claimants, and the desperately poor and disadvantaged. In my free street legal service, I’ve helped dozens of homeless, abused, immigrant, disabled, and veteran clients. I’ve seen firsthand how, with just a little help, people can get on in life despite enormous challenges. I’ve also seen how they can fail despite enormous advantages, for lack of wise counsel.
